One day...

I will take a photo as good as this.

The Wildlife Photographer of the Year is back on at the Natural History Museum and i've yet to go this year - looks like i'll be in for a treat thought.

(and once again to become insanely jealous of some 12 year old who has an amazing bit of kit and the opportunity to take a photo that gets selected for the junior exhibition).

But this made me laugh.

And similarly when you tell someone you're a copywriter they generally think you're some sort of lawyer.

The drugs are taking their toll

On the tube this morning i caught sight of this story over someone's shoulder. I couldn't see the picture of the troubled singer or the accompanying story, just the headline and the main picture.

Genius bit of image placement if you ask me.

Characters for an epic tale

I love this from the Cabanon Press - reminds me of Grayson Perry's Print for a Politician (below) i saw at the Tate St Ives a month or so ago, part of the Hugh Stoneman exhibition (i know, high brow or what?) - which is excellent.

You can't really see why it's so good here, but trust me it is.

Grafty Pilate Radio

Some nice work from the obviously very clever Yuri Suzuki - particularly the above (click on the image and then the quicktime) and the Lemon Light.

And if Yuri, or any of Yuri's friends are reading this, apologies for taking the piss out of your accent - your English is much better than my Japanese.

The Girl Effect

As the initial animation was playing i wasn't too convinced to be honest. For instance, if all 6 billion girls had a farm, who'd you sell the milk to? Man can only drink so much.

But at the end there is a bunch of statistics that put a lot of this ethos into perspective - definitely some interesting ideas there.

The male race of the developing world needs a massive kick up the arse - of that there is now doubt.

Nice site, shame about the song

Don't like the music but the video/site is nicely done and reet interactive

The Radioheads

Radiohead at Viccy Park last night was something special. Biggest gig i've been to in years (festivals aside) and the sound was as crisp, or even crisper, as if we we're in the back room of a pub.

This is what they played - don't blame me if it's inaccurate coz i was too drunk and having too much of a good time to take notes, so this came from some square on the interpipe:

‘15 Step’ ‘Bodysnatchers’ ‘All I Need’ ‘The National Anthem’ ‘Pyramid Song’ ‘Nude’ ‘Weird Fishes / Arpeggi’ ‘The Gloaming’ ‘Dollars & Cents’ ‘Faust Arp’ ‘There There’ ‘Just’ ‘Climbing Up The Walls’ ‘Reckoner’ ‘Everything In Its Right Place’ * ‘How To Disappear Completely’ ‘Jigsaw Falling Into Place’ - - - ‘Videotape’ ‘Airbag’ ‘Bangers & Mash’ ‘Planet Telex’ ‘The Tourist’ - - - ‘Cymbal Rush’ ‘You And Whose Army’ ‘Idioteque’

This is somewhat what it was like.

Lovely site from Nikon - puts everything into perspective.

Have you got beef wiv Josh Carter...

This was taken in Fair Oak. A not-as-gorgeous-as-it-used-to-be Metroplollage nestled in the very beautiful Hampshire countryside. It's where i grew up.

There's another 49 of them here - cheers Nath!

Big Ideas (don't get any)

As the man says...

"Radiohead held an online contest to remix "Nude" from their album - "In Rainbows" This was quite a difficult task for everybody that entered, as Nude is in 6/8 timing, and 63bpm. Most music that's played in clubs is around 120bpm and usually 4/4 timing. It's pretty difficult to seamlessly mix a waltz beat into a DJ set.

This resulted in lots of generic entries consisting of a typical 4/4 beat, but with arbitrary clips from "Nude" thrown in so that they qualified for the contest.

Thom Yorke joked at the ridiculousness of it in an interview for NPR radio, hinting that they set the competition to find out how people would approach such a challenging task.

I decided to take the piss a bit, as the contest seemed to be in that spirit.

Based on the lyric (and alternate title) "Big Ideas: Don't get any" I grouped together a collection of old redundant hardware, and placed them in a situation where they're trying their best to do something that they're not exactly designed to do, and not quite getting there.

It doesn't sound great, as it's not supposed to."

Insanely creative.
