May the coarse be with you*

Like many men my age i grew up in a world of Wampas, Tauntauns & All Terrain Armored Transports. I'd rejoice at the arrival of a new TV or washing machine so i could plunder the polystyrene packaging and continue the construction of my Hothesque rebel base in the spare room, and I'd wait anxiously for the postman to deliver my limited edition weapons pack that i'd ordered in return for 6 names from the action figure blister packs.

Happy, happy days.

Then, sometime around the age of 12 or so, i sold everything to a friend of my Auntie Joyce for fifty notes. 60 odd figures, ATATs, Scout Walkers, The Falcon, Snow Speeder, Slave 1, Death Star, Tie Fighter, crazy little vehicles that never even appeared in the films, the list goes on and on.

The Lot - £50!

The reason i sold it all however was to fund a developing passion that i've retained to this day. The best part of that cash went towards the purchase of my first proper fishing rod, an 11' 4'' Abu Garcia ledger rod that i still have.

I wonder how my angling career would have differed if this had been around then.

*sorry!

A bit of Shrigley for you...

More, much more, genius here

Why advertising sucks - pt 1

This photo is in the window of my local chippy* - on it's side, at the bottom, in the corner.

And that's no surprise really. The message is basically saying 'Eat Pies, Get Laid'.

Come on advertising! I mean, i know the 'Do this, get laid' message has kept your industry afloat for the last 50 years or so but this is taking it a little far isn't it.

It's a chip shop pie for fuck's sake!

*apologies for the reflection of my slaphead on the left - i was in a hurry. In a hurry for pies.

‘Cause you’re the one who’s riding around on a leopard...

...you’re the one who’s throwing dead birds in the air'.

Hitting a bit of a sweet spot in gig terms at the moment. This time it was Sunset Rubdown at The Luminaire in Kilburn - truly amazing performance.

Indie Rock of the highest order - and tight as hell to boot.

All the bootlegs on youtube are shit - so here's some lads skating to Krug et al.

Pimp my Breakfast

This is apparently, in the words of Westwood, for real!

I love the guy with the gang tattoos sporting a stylish Corn Flakes T.

Another one of those gigs....

Saw Bon Iver at The Social last night. I've said it before and no doubt i'll say it again - it was one of those gigs - truly awesome.

We were so close and the music was so beautiful it felt rude to take a photo, so i didn't. This is Justin on Later... last week though.

Bring on St Giles Church in a few weeks.

My old man...

I'm not a Spurs fan, but on the other hand, I'm definitely not a Gooner either - made me laugh.

Speak your brains

Another excellent example of street art. Go round sticking big speech bubbles on posters, sit back and see what people write.

Virility

Basic design, basic flash, basic concept. But for five minutes in the office this afternoon all you could hear was the sound of virtual paper hitting virtual bin.

Skate TV

Lovely site from DC Shoes - full of skatiggery and such. It doesn't want to be the official site of skateboarding on my blog though, unlike Nathan's, from whence it came.

Tittymil

I saw this the other day when i was in Cornwall, and most excellent it is too. I wonder what other products could genuinely make the same claim? Answers to the usual address...

Jane Tyson has a lot to answer for!

I work with a lovely lady called Pip - cool name, cool lady. Anyhoo, her name reminded me of the Children's TV show Pipkins, that i used to watch when i was off of school in the 70's.

What i didn't remember however was how damn sinister the puppets looked.

What was Jane Tyson on when she made these?

Thank god for Battle of the Planets, that all i can say.
